Transmission & Distribution/Emergency Generation, Northwest, Northeast, Metro
Cliff Buckalew is a graduate of Georgia State University with a BBA in Business/Marketing and Chattahoochee Tech with an EET- Electronics Engineering. He is a Project Manager providing customer relationship, project development and direct sales support for the Power Services business unit at Georgia Power. Cliff is an accomplished electric utility/alternative energy professional with more than 30 years of experience in sales, design, engineering, and installation of utility/private sector energy projects. Through his leadership and his history of building strong customer relationships, he delivers a proven track record of creating and managing progressively larger projects and businesses across the electric utility, alternative energy, and electrical manufacturing markets.
T&D Sales/Construction Manager
Jimmy is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He has over 30 years of utility experience with Georgia Power. Prior to his current role, he held positions in Distribution, Region Sales, Key Account Management, and Customer Choice. He has also held leadership roles in Key Account Management and Region Sales.
Jimmy has spent over 15 years in competitive utility sales.
Alice began her career with Georgia Power at Plant Yates in 2003 as a Senior Administrative Representative. She has over ten years of work experience with Georgia Power and Southern Company. Alice has worked in Southern Payroll as well as in Heavy Hauling with Transmission Construction. She joined Power Services in 2014 as a Senior Support Specialist for Distribution Projects.
Power Services - Construction Coordinator
Steve Handley has over 28 years of diverse electrical utility experience including electrical distribution, transmission and substation. Prior to coming to Georgia Power, Steve was a lineman with an Electric Membership Cooperative (EMC) and a utility contractor. Additionally he holds a State of Georgia Master Electricians License and is a Level II Thermographer. Prior to his current role as a Construction Coordinator, Steve served as a Lineman (Transmission & Distribution) and a Distribution Crew Leader.
Transmission & Distribution/Emergency Generation, East, West, South, Central, Coastal
Yancey has over 15 years of utility experience with Southern Company. He has served most of his career as an account executive for industrial, commercial and residential customers. In addition, he has worked in our Customer Choice, Customer Service, Distribution and Energy Services areas. At this time, Yancey is in his third year as a Project Manager in Power Services, where he oversees sales and construction of distribution and generator projects in Central, West, and South Regions.
Justin Johnson is a Graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Forest Resources Management. He has over 6 years of experience with Georgia Power Company managing the vegetation on their Distribution Utility System in both the Metro Atlanta Area and the Northeast Region of the State, being responsible for approximately 6,300 miles of the Distribution System during that time. Prior to his time with Georgia Power Company, Justin worked as a Procurement Forester for various wood products facilities and has over 6 years of experience in this field and in working with traditional Forestry practices. Justin is an ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Utility Specialist, and holds both a Registered Forester License and Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in the State of Georgia.
Project Manager for East & Coastal Regions
Mike is a graduate of Mercer University with a master's in Business Administration and Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He is a military veteran with eight years of service in the United States Coast Guard. He has eight years of utility experience with Georgia Power and Savannah Electric. He has worked in the areas of Distribution Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Substation Support, and has held multiple leadership positions. Mike has been involved in transmission, substation and distribution projects totaling over $20 million. Mike has a diverse background and proven track record managing successful projects. He oversees sales and construction of substation, distribution and generator projects in Coastal and East Regions
Mac is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He currently serves as the Manager of Engineering of Georgia Power's Power Services. Mac has more than 20 years of utility/energy experience with Georgia Power and Southern Company. He is a licensed Professional Engineer. Mac has worked as Distribution Engineer, Commercial Account Manager, Corporate Engineering Services Senior Engineer at Alabama Power, and Engineering Supervisor in Georgia Power's Northwest and Metro South Regions. He has participated in several internal and external leadership development programs, including Georgia Power's Leadership and Mentoring and First Line Supervisor Development Programs, Alabama Power's Leadership Development Program, and Leadership Academies for the Fayette and Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. Mac is also responsible for the transmission, substation, and distribution emergency response, repair and maintenance business segment of Power Services. He is also the Joint Trench Program Manager for Georgia Power.
Joe Lawrence is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He has also completed the Goizueta Executive Leadership Program of Emory University. He currently serves as the Business Unit Manager of Power Services. He has 29 years of utility experience with Georgia Power. He has worked in the areas of System Protection, Region Distribution & Construction (overhead, underground & metering), Region Management, System Control and Service Response and Restoration. Joe has managed numerous multimillion dollar projects/budgets both regionally and statewide. Joe is a proven leader with diverse management experience and over 17 years in leadership positions.
Ron has 28 years of utility experience with Georgia Power. His experience includes power generation, transmission and both overhead and underground distribution construction and engineering experience. He has extensive design, engineering, estimating and construction experience in residential, commercial, large industrial and campus-type customers. This includes both regulated and unregulated projects. Ron also orders all material and equipment for our department. In the past three years while working in the Power Services department, he has engineered over $10 million of "customer owned" projects. Ron has engineered several distribution projects at existing DOC facilities.
Greg Morgan is a graduate of University of West Georgia with a BBA in Accounting. He has over 25 years of utility experience with Georgia Power/Southern Company and 15 years of experience in utility accounting and corporate cost accounting. Greg began his career in Generation Operations and has worked in the areas of Generation Accounting, Accounting Applications Support, and Southern Company Services Accounting, Finance & Treasury. Greg has worked on several key accounting and reporting projects for Southern Company, including the Committed Cost Tracking System (CCS) and Enterprise Solutions Support (ESS) in testing and upgrading the key accounting applications. Greg has also worked outside of Southern Company system in unregulated utilities accounting and manufacturing accounting positions. Greg is currently the Comptroller for the Power Services organization.
Richard Sawley has 26 years of utility experience with Georgia Power. This experience includes power generation, transmission and both overhead and underground distribution construction experience. He has extensive experience doing work for large industrial, commercial and campus type customers. In the past five years, he has managed over $50 million of "customer owned" projects. Richard consistently and effectively manages multiple projects on multiple sites. Richard has managed several distribution construction projects at existing DOC facilities.
Vegetation Management, South
Stephen Scarborough is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Resources. He has 15 years experience with Georgia Power in overseeing the vegetation management for 3,000 miles of distribution lines and serves customers in 23 counties in south Georgia. Stephen is an ISA Certified Arborist, Registered Forester (GA), and a Certified Pesticide Applicator (GA). He is the former chairman of the Trees of Macon Committee. Stephen consistently and effectively manages several different projects for the DNR, MEAG and several different municipalities.
Eric has over 24 years of utility experience. He began his career at EMC and transitioned to Georgia Power in 2003. He is experienced in Distribution construction, engineering and line design and has worked as an Engineering Analyst for Georgia Power's Lighting Services Business Unit. After working with a wide variety of Residential, Commercial, and Industrial customers, he joined the Power Services Team as an Engineering Representative in 2015. Eric works closely with Project Managers in Central, South, West, and Coastal regions. He is highly committed to customer satisfaction and service.
Vegetation Management, North
Clay Szoke is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Resources. He has 15 years experience with Georgia Power in overseeing the vegetation management for distribution and transmission lines in the state of Georgia. Clay is an ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Utility Specialist, Registered Forester (GA), and a Certified Pesticide Applicator (GA). Clay effectively manages several different projects for the DNR, MEAG, Dalton Utilities and several different municipalities.
David holds a bachelor's degree in Forest Resources and a master's degree in Business from the University of Georgia. He is a certified arborist, licensed pesticide applicator and registered Forester in the state of Georgia. He has worked for Georgia Power since 1985 and has held numerous field and supervisory positions in the Forestry and R/W Department. In 2002 he founded the Vegetation Management Business Unit within Power Services and has managed this business since its inception.
Ronnie Turner has 38 years of operating experience with Georgia Power. This experience includes overhead, underground and transmission. Ronnie was one of four chosen statewide to help write some of the operating procedures for our Klondike Training Facility when it was built. Ronnie has managed several multi-million dollar projects in the metro area. This includes the customer-owned distribution construction of several large data centers in the metro area. Ronnie works on the customer-owned distribution system of several of our colleges in the state.
Jason Venditto has nine years of utility experience with Georgia Power and Southern Company. His experience includes power generation, transmission, and substation construction and maintenance work. Prior to his current Construction Coordinator role, Jason served as Plant Service Technician for Southern Company Services, where he tested and maintained battery systems for generation plants across the Southeastern United States. Prior to joining Georgia Power, Jason was a Service Coordinator for an industrial and commercial electrical contractor and served four years as Gunner's Mate in the U.S. Navy. Jason has a technical diploma from Central Georgia Technical College in Electrical Construction and Maintenance.
Bryan graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology. He has over 11 years of utility experience with Georgia Power/Southern Company. Bryan worked in Substation Design Control for five years for transmission, distribution and customer substations. He also worked as a Senior Test Engineer in Athens TMC for five years. Bryan also worked as the Southern Company Technical Training Coordinator and was responsible for functionalizing technical training in Alabama, Georgia, Gulf and Mississippi operating companies.
